The Yankees are adding an infielder, just not the one many were expecting.
The YES Network is reporting that the Yankees have agreed to a two-year deal with DJ Lemahieu, which would likely close the door on the team signing Manny Machado. The deal is expected to be in the $24 million range.
Lemahieu has mostly played second base, but has seen time at third as well. Lemahieu won the batting title for the Rockies in 2016, hitting .348 and has a career .298 average. He hit a career-high 15 home runs last season in Colorado.
The White Sox and Phillies are considered the frontrunners for Machado. The Yankees always seemed unwilling to match the money that Chicago and Philadelphia are willing to spend on the former Orioles and Dodgers slugger.
