President Trump on Tuesday said that Rep. Ilhan Omar should resign from Congress a day after she apologized for sending out a pair of tweets that many condemned as anti-Semitic.
“I think she should either resign from Congress or she should certainly resign from the House Foreign Affairs Committee,” he said, ripping the Minnesota Democrat’s apology as “lame.”
“Anti-Semitism has no place in the United States Congress. And Congressman Omar, it’s terrible what she said,” the commander-in-chief continued.
“What she said is so deep-seated in her heart that her lame apology, that’s what it was, it was lame and she didn’t mean a word of it, was just not appropriate.”
Omar on Monday tweeted out an apology after a conversation with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that followed widespread outrage over her remarks.
On Sunday night Omar, who is Muslim, tweeted “It’s all about the Benjamins baby,” suggesting House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California was financially motivated to defend Israel.
Omar, 37, came to the US as a refugee from Somalia.
