After backlash over creepy look, ‘Sonic’ release will be delayed

Fans, you can either have a bizarrely human-looking Sonic the Hedgehog this year, or you can have a less odd-looking Sonic the Hedgehog later.

The makers of the movie based off the Sega video game announced Friday that it’ll be later. Like, next year later.

The movie’s director tweeted a new release date for the movie, starring Jim Carrey and James Marsden: Valentine’s Day 2020.

Backlash was vicious when fans saw what the anthropomorphized hedgehog would look like in the November 2019 movie. Umbrage was taken over Sonic’s “Creepy human teeth” and a lanky muscular body.

So vicious, in fact, that the creators took note and said they will give the people what they want.

“The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes,” tweeted director Jeff Fowler It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast.”
