The $300,000 Art Rooney Final for 3-year-old pacers at Yonkers Raceway on Saturday night became a wide-open event because of the luck of the draw.
“Obviously, everybody knows that the draw has probably in general created more interest in the race than there may otherwise have been,” trainer Chris Ryder said.
Ryder schools Bettor’s Wish, who along with Air Force Hanover, won the two Rooney eliminations last week, and drew posts 6 and 8, respectively.
Bettor’s Wish is the morning-line second choice at 7-2, while Air Force Hanover is the 5-1 third choice. The 5-2 favorite is Blood Money from post 7, therefore putting all three favorites in poor position on the outside. Blood Money finished second to Bettor’s Wish in his Rooney elimination.
The Rooney, which pays homage to the late Steelers owner Art Rooney Sr., is the 10th race on the 12-race card that starts at 6:50 p.m.
