Jeff Bezos to announce Blue Origin’s mission to the moon

Jeff Bezos is expected to announce plans Thursday of his space company Blue Origin’s mission to the moon, according to a new report.

The world’s richest man and Amazon founder will lay out details of the lunar missions, as well as a lunar lander spacecraft the company is currently developing, sources told Reuters.

Blue Origin has also discussed building a human outpost on the moon, the sources said.

Bezos’ announcement — which is scheduled for Thursday afternoon in Washington — will provide “an update on our progress and share our vision of going to space to benefit Earth.”

In March, Vice President Mike Pence called on NASA to build a space platform in lunar orbit and put American astronauts on the moon’s south pole by 2024 “by any means necessary.”

Bezos’ plans are apparently tailored to fit that timeline in an effort to attract funds from NASA, a source said.
