The 11-year-old daughter of a Russian millionaire was forced to give up the top prize in a “The Voice” spin-off show when it was revealed bots rigged the competition.
Mikella Abramova — the daughter of former Eurovision contestant Alsou and banker Yan Abramov — was dethroned on the Russian show “The Voice Kids” Thursday after fans questioned how she managed to earn 56.5 percent of the vote in the finale.
The competition hired a cybersecurity firm to evaluate the results and discovered there was “outside influence on the voting,” according to the state-owned Channel One TV.
Bots sent more than 8,000 automated texts from 300 phone numbers to deliver the millionaire’s kid the win, the BBC reported.
“More than 30,000 votes came in for one contestant from those phone numbers,” the security firm said, adding that no other competitor received more than 3,000 votes.
The show announced they will film the sixth-season finale again later this month and take further steps to make sure voting is secure.
