It looks like controversy has followed Grayson Allen to another NBA city.
The Memphis Grizzlies guard was ejected in the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s Las Vegas Summer League game after picking up two flagrant fouls in the span of seven seconds.
Allen — who was reprimanded for numerous tripping incidents during his controversy-filled career at Duke — was booted for taking a swipe at the Boston Celtics’ Grant Williams.
The Atlantic Coast Conference reprimanded Allen for appearing to trip two players on purpose in 2016. He served a one-game suspension by Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and got stripped of his captain’s title in the 2016-17 season after he got caught tripping an opponent. Though he basically stayed out of trouble during the 2017-18 season, Allen hip-checked North Carolina’s Garrison Brooks in the ACC Tournament.
This wasn’t the first time Allen found trouble during an NBA contest. In a summer league game last year in Salt Lake City, Allen — then with the Utah Jazz — got into a tussle with the Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young. Allen, the No. 21 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, played just 38 games last season for the Jazz and was acquired by the Grizzlies in the recent trade that sent Mike Conley to Utah.
Maybe the frustration of a poor game was getting to Allen, who scored just three points in 19 minutes of the Grizzlies’ 113-87 blowout loss to the Celitcs.
